The Ocean Re-CREATION Challenge 2021 is the first supra-regional hackathon on coastal and marine conservation. The goal of the Ocean Re-CREATION Challenge is to develop solutions for the current challenges in coastal and marine protection in interdisciplinary teams. With your help and knowledge, we want to actively promote innovative ideas from basic research to conceptual projects for concrete implementation, and thus make an active contribution to solving global problems at the local level.

For the duration of the event, participants work in interdisciplinary teams on concrete tasks and develop innovative solution concepts for them. These can be software- or hardware-based, or even service concepts (and everything in between). So there is a lot of freedom for development and design. The teams are actively supported by mentors with technical and methodological expertise.

At the end of the week, the teams present their results from the idea/solution process to a jury of experts. The jury selects one concept per topic area, which is then promoted and further developed in our subsequent booster program over a period of one year.

Through a high degree of heterogeneity among the participants, with the help of agile working methods and in a creative working atmosphere, we offer a space in which innovative and at the same time realistic approaches to solutions can be developed. The aim is not to reinvent the wheel, but to create new links between existing knowledge and skills - i.e. knowledge transfer.
